I have a friend who recently told me she has a personal rule that gives her trouble at this time of year: No Pumpkin Spice Lattes until October 1st! Personally, I think she’s crazy, but I do understand her thought process: She doesn’t want to ruin the magic. The more we allow ourselves the “special” foods in our lives at un-special times, the more their special-ness is sortof eroded. But honestly, as much as I love my friend, I don’t agree with her in general on the “Pumpkin Spice” craziness. I want to eat it all the time….

So, have you ever wondered whether you REALLY need to follow those ridiculous inane instructions in a recipe? “Spray this.” “Flour that.” Mix this before that or the ALL THE THINGS WILL GO WRONG.
About ten years ago, I worked for a catering company here in Reno that seriously had the most amazing food. Mind you, this was before I actually cooked at all. But they had three dishes that were my absolute favorites, and two were cookies. I loved this cookie so much that I asked the owner for the recipe and I have used it ever since.
I think it was my parents’ generation who really first decided to start grilling fruit. I mean, I’m sure it happened before then… and often, but I want to say that grilling fruit at home became much more main stream about the time I was in high school in the early 2000’s.
I have to admit, I’ve always loved my birthday. It sounds terrible, but I love that there’s one night a year where I can invite all my friends out and they generally feel obligated to say yes. Hahaha. Make no mistake, I have great friends and I promise I’m not so pathetic that I have to obligate them to hang out with me on a regular basis; but life is so busy anymore that it’s a very rare occasion that everyone is able to get together all at once. And I truly love having everyone I love together at the same time.
Hello there! Saturdays on the new Hungry Dater are a bit eclectic, I realize. The weekends, for me, are a time to enjoy, perhaps cheat a little bit, and, of course, to have parties! As a single person, a big part of my dating life comes from big gatherings–whether it’s because that’s where to meet people, it’s a chance for my friends to meet a new beau of mine, or it’s just because I’m bored
This week has made me realize that, for a girl who writes about dating, I’m apparently not very good at it. I have been officially single for almost ten years. In that time, I have racked up my fair share of dates. First dates mostly, a few second dates, and a small handful of “somethings” that last little longer than a few weeks.
